Every Action Counts

Every Action CountsCarbon Emissions / Climate Change / Ice Caps Melting / Global Warming - we come across these words everyday in the press and on television, there is so much information out there but where do you start and what can you do?

We all want to live happy, healthy and prosperous lives. And we also want the best for our children and grandchildren in the future too. But for this to happen, we need to make the world greener, cleaner, fairer and safer than it is today. We need to live within our environmental means and move towards what the WWF has called ‘one planet living’.

This may sound like an impossible challenge, but it’s not.

Contact the Sustainability Team at Trafford Council who can arrange to visit your group and get you started in the right direction. The Every Action Counts initiative is about building a sustainable future, promoting one small action at a time, to help community groups take simple everyday actions that will benefit themselves and help create a cleaner, greener, fairer and safer community at the same time.

At the meeting the group will take stock of what they are already doing, and identify actions that they want to take forward from a set of pre-printed cards, they then work on an action plan to progress their identified list of actions. This action plan is logged on the Every Action Counts website where groups can track their progress and share information and ideas with others.

The advantage to community groups are:

  • The actions that you get involved in will ultimately save money, and contribute to reducing carbon emissions in Trafford.

  • The involvement in environmental issues could attract new members to your organisation, in promoting that you are dealing with issues that are important to the people in the borough.

  • Community empowerment in getting people involved in addressing the wider environmental and community issues, and improving the local area.

  • Access to the Every Action Counts website to register your commitment, information and resources, promote what you are doing, get help with stumbling blocks, and share ideas with others throughout the country.

  • Groups will receive an accreditation certificate of commitment from the Every Action Counts giving the opportunity to apply for funding bids. Defra have indicated that it is intended to include environmental sustainability projects written into Lottery / Big Funding grants criteria.
